National Magazine Award winner Ben Ehrenreich will take to the ATX stage to read from and discuss his recently released Ether (City Lights) at the December installment of Slake after Dark.
Ehrenreich, who has contributed to Slake: Los Angeles multiple times, is earning praise for his second novel, which the Los Angeles Times calls “a compact work of biblical noir.” Ether follows a character known as “the Stranger” through a ruined landscape as he is by turns abused and assisted by fellow travelers.
Update: Read an excerpt of Ether here.
After the reading and discussion, Spaceland Productions will present local bluegrass trio Triple Chicken Foot. “The Foot,” as its fans call the band, is active in L.A.’s thriving folk scene. It hosts a monthly Old Time Jam at 1642 Bar in Historic Filipinotown and organizes a quarterly square dance at HM157 in Lincoln Heights. The trio, based in Hi-Fi, has won praise from No Depression, the L.A. Times and Weekly, and various music blogs.
